Investing.com — Uber Technologies Inc (NYSE:) is trading higher Thursday after it was revealed the company will begin listing New York City taxis on its app.

This news signals a shift in the direction of ride-hailing company, previously opposed by taxi companies for many years.

Creative Mobile and Curb have arranged for a change of course. Curb will offer additional transportation options. The company also benefits from the ease of driver availability.

Guy Peterson (Director of Business Development at Uber) stated that this is a win-win situation for Uber riders. He said, “This will allow them to access thousands of yellow taxis through the Uber app.”

Uber will begin rolling out beta taxi service in the spring. The general public can expect a full roll out by the end of the year.

Uber-originated fare prices will appear on the driver monitors of taxi drivers before they accept the ride. Uber drivers cannot see this information.

“Our partnership with Uber is a natural step forward in the expansion of ground mobility and, as a driver-first company, we will remain committed to our taxi drivers and fleets as we work with Uber to generate enhanced stability and financial wellness for members of the taxi industry,” said Amos Tamam, CEO of Curb.

Uber shares rose 5% on Thursday
