BRUSSELS, (Reuters) – The U.S. President Joe Biden stated on Thursday that China believes its economic future is closer to Russia than the West. He warned Beijing about possible consequences for supporting Moscow’s war in Ukraine.

“I made no threats but I made it clear to him – made sure he understood the consequences of helping Russia,” Biden said of a recent conversation with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.

China understands its economic future is more tied to the West then it is to Russia.

Biden, speaking at a conference that was taking place on the sidelines emergency meetings in Europe said that he pointed out to Xi how many foreign and American businesses have left Russia following the invasion of Ukraine.
