BEIJING, (Reuters) – Organisers of Beijing’s autoshow have delayed the event after a sudden uptake in COVID-19-related cases in China.
Auto China organizers have not decided on a new date yet, sources claimed, declining to identify because the information wasn’t yet public.
Auto China has not yet responded to my request for comment.
China currently faces its largest wave of COVID-19-related locally transmitted cases. This is in addition to its initial 2020 outbreak that was centered on Wuhan. Multiple provinces also have established movement controls.
Every year, China and Shanghai alternate hosting the largest trade show on the auto industry.
This venue attracts domestic as well international carmakers like Toyota (DE), Volkswagen (DE), Geely and Toyota. It is also used frequently to launch new products.
A coronavirus outbreak caused by the April 2019 Beijing Autoshow, also delayed it’s 2020 date to September.
