Minneapolis teachers in tentative deal to end weeks-long strike -Breaking

(Reuters) – Minneapolis’ public schools district announced Friday that it has reached a tentative agreement with its teachers union in order to end a strike that had kept approximately 30,000 students from classes for over two weeks.

Students and staff who vote to approve the agreement by the entire union will be allowed to return to school Monday morning, as the district announced in an online announcement at around 4 AM local time.

After failing to agree on a contract, the city’s 4500 teachers and support personnel walked off March 8. Both sides disagreed on matters such as teacher aide salaries, student mental health and class size.

The details of the agreement are not yet available. Local news reports say that a press conference was scheduled for 9 AM.

The teachers’ strike at Sacramento (California) was due to continue for a third day after negotiations failed last week to reach a deal.
