SANAA, Reuters – Khaled Rmeishi (16) has watched Yemen and its future collapse as a result of a war which has pushed many people in the country’s long-imperiled Arabian Peninsula region into poverty and further hunger.

Rmeishi is currently in ninth grade. He helps his family at the father’s auto repair shop in Sanaa. Later, he hopes to be a plumber, electrician, or mechanic.

When I started my education and went to school for the first time, I only saw war. “It affected my schooling and my work, it affected everybody,” he stated at his garage. He washed, polished, and repaired a bumper on a blue sedan.

“We have wasted too many years of our life. It is my hope that war ceases and we live together in peace.

On Saturday marks the eighth year of war between Iran-aligned Houthi and a Saudi Arabian coalition. It has left behind 19 million hungry people, and killed thousands more.

The United Nations estimates that 22 million people require support in order to obtain health services. 8.5 Million children are eligible for education assistance, while 16,000,000 need to be able to access potable water.

Some 4 million Yemenis have been displaced by fighting.

Abdullah Hamzeh from Darwan camp, Sanaa said, “We’re lost. People are lost. It’s almost as though we are submerged underground.” My children and mine are homeless, have no income or any other source of income. We ask God to stop this war across Yemen.

Yemen’s economy is in ruins and import-dependent goods are severely restricted by restrictions imposed by coalition on Houthis-held areas. These were evicted the Saudi-backed government of Sanaa in the latter part 2014.

After pledging drives that raised only a third the estimated $4.27 billion needed for 2022, the United Nations warned that Yemen’s biggest humanitarian operation will be reduced. This includes food, health, and other assistance.
