MEXICO CITY, (Reuters) – Mexican airline Aeromexico reached an agreement with Air Lease Corporation to rent nine Boeing (NYSE.) aircrafts. This will allow Aeromexico to expand its fleet after it has emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Aeromexico will receive two new 737-8s from Air Lease and seven new 737-9s between July 2022-August 2023 according to the aircraft leasing company.

Aeromexico had announced that it would invest $5 billion on improvements over five years, which included 147 new aircraft for the fleet.

Steven Udvar Hazy, Executive Chairman of Air Lease Corporation said that the 737 is the best modern and fuel efficient technology available to improve the international capabilities of Mexico’s top airline.

Aeromexico declared bankrupt in the middle of 2020 after travel demand dropped following the outbreak coronavirus.

An agreement was reached with the debtors by the airline in January in a U.S. Court. It then carried out a forward and reverse stock split to change company control. Thus, the airline’s exit from bankruptcy.

After a turbulent week in Mexico’s main market, Aeromexico shares rose 8.45% on Friday morning. Analysts predicted that shares would behave similarly until more information is available to traders about the airline’s financial position.

Air Lease shares rose by 1.35% to the New York Stock Exchange after the announcement.
