Will Smith apologizes to Chris Rock for slapping him at the Oscars

Will Smith went on social media Monday to express his regret at Chris Rock’s behavior. slapping him during Sunday’s Academy Award ceremonyHe called it “unacceptable, inexcusable”. Smith accepted the award for best actress later that evening.
Smith posted on Instagram, “Hooray for jokes at my expense is part of the job,” Smith said.
Chris, I would like to publicly apologise to you. It was my fault and it was my mistake.”
Smith took umbrage with a joke made by Rock about Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith for her bald head. Pinkett Smith openly admitted to having hair loss. Rock responded to Smith’s attack by saying, “Will Smith just beat the crap out of me.”
Smith repeatedly shouted at Rock “Keep your wife’s name out f —– of your mouth.”
He accepted the Oscar he apologized to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and SciencesAs well as the other nominees. He didn’t mention Rock.
Monday’s statement by the Academy was that it condemns the actions of Smith during Sunday’s Oscars and plans to launch a formal review of his actions.
In a statement Monday, the film academy said: “The Academy condemns the actions of Mr. Smith at last night’s show. We have officially started a formal review around the incident and will explore further action and consequences in accordance with our bylaws, standards of conduct and California law.”
According to Los Angeles Police Department records, Rock did not press charges.

All forms of violence are destructive and poisonous. Last night’s Academy Awards behavior was unacceptable. While jokes at my expense are part of the job. However, a joke about Jada’s medical condition was just too much and I responded emotionally.
Chris, I want to publicly apologize. Chris, I was not in line with the rules and was incorrect. My actions are embarrassing and they do not reflect the man I want. In a world filled with love and kindness, violence is not allowed.
Also, I apologize to Academy and producers, to all those who attended, as well as to everyone else watching the event around the globe. My King Richard family and the Williams Family would also like my sincere apologies. My behavior is deeply regrettable. It has been a beautiful journey for us all.
