Bandai Namco Provides More Information on Gundam Metaverse in Conference
    • Bandai Namco presented new details about the Gundam metaverse project at its 3rd Gundam Conference, March 29, 2009.
    • The company will “develop a metaverse for each IP as a new framework for connecting with fans.”
    • Bandai Namco is the first to establish the foundation for the virtual communities.

Bandai Namco (a Japanese manufacturer of toys and games) has revealed details regarding its Gundam metaverse project, which was unveiled at the 3rd Gundam Conference in March 29.

CoinQuora has reported Bandai Namco’s plans to create a virtual world, called the Mobile Suit Gundam Metaverse. According to initial reports, the space will include games, videos and music as well as other activities that are related to Gundam Universe.

Bandai Namco announced its midterm plans during the Gundam Conference. They will be released this April. The company disclosed that it will “develop a metaverse for each IP as a new framework for connecting with fans.”

SIDE-G is the first IP metaverse and will include the Gundam franchise. The Gundam franchise is placed in space colonies similar to the artificial habitats of the Universal Century timeline.

It will include anime and video games as well as Gunplas (Gundam models), among many other things. SIDE-G users can access different colonies through avatars. This allows them to interact with the ecosystem and other users.

Bandai Namco plans to build each sector’s foundation gradually, rather than complete the virtual world. Bandai Namco aims to achieve this by creating virtual communities for every content type.

These sectors, using Bandai Naco IDs will be then linked to form the metaverse.

Gunpla colony is the first planned virtual village that will provide Gunpla content. The SIDE-G will host this colony and other virtual communities. Officially launching the Gundam Base Gunpla Colony space dedicated to Gunpla entertainment, the Gunpla colony is set. The third quarter is when testing will begin.

Gunpla training will be available at the Gunpla colony, as well as Gunpla online and Gunpla combat courses.

The eSports colony will be built in 2023. The colony will be home to a worldwide community of gamers who play Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation 2 as well as the forthcoming team-based FPS Gundam Evolution.

Bandai Namco has made Gundam the main project for the Bandai Namco Group. It aims to expand the project that spans beyond 2026 — the end of the company’s midterm plan.
