LVIV, Ukraine/KYIV OUTSKIRTS – Ukraine reacted with skepticism at Russia’s offer in negotiations to scale back military operations around Kyiv. This was despite Western countries expecting Moscow to intensify its offensive elsewhere in the country.

Over a month ago, the biggest attack on an European nation since World War Two saw talks in Istanbul. It has left thousands dead or wounded and nearly 4,000,000 people fleeing abroad.

Ukrainian forces, despite being trapped inside cities and having retaken territories on many fronts have stopped the invasion.

Russian Deputy Defence Minister Alexander Fomin said to reporters, “To increase mutual trust and make the conditions necessary for further negotiations and to achieve the ultimate goal (an agreement) to be signed and signed, it was decided to drastically reduce military activity at the Kyiv-Chernihiv direction.”

He did not mention other areas where heavy fighting has occurred, such as around Mariupol, Sumy, Kharkiv and Kharkiv to the east, and Kherson, Mykolaiv and Mykolaiv to the south.

Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the Ukrainian President, said that “Ukrainians don’t naive people” late Tuesday.

“Ukrainians learned over these 34 days, as well as the eight-year war in Donbass that they cannot trust anything but a tangible result.”

According to the general staff of Ukrainian armed forces, Russia’s promises to end military operations in certain areas is “possibly a rotational of units and aims at mislead.”

Interfax news agency reported that Ukrainian military forces under attack in Kiev were accused by Russia of setting up firing posts in schools and hospitals as part of ceasefires.

According to the Pentagon, Russia is moving very few troops from Kyiv’s positions in an effort to reposition itself rather than retreat from war.

John Kirby (NYSE 🙂 said during a briefing that “we all need to be ready for a major offense against other parts of Ukraine.” It does not necessarily mean the threat to Kyiv has ended.

In an intelligence update, the Ministry of Defence of Britain stated that Russia would likely seek to shift combat power to the north in order to support their offensive in Donetsk or Luhansk in the east.

Reuters was unable to verify either side’s claims immediately.

According to reports, the leader of Moscow-backed Donetsk People’s Republic (eastern Ukraine) may think about joining Russia after it has seized all Donetsk in Ukraine. Kyiv stated that such a move would not have legal foundation.

Russia called the attack a special operation to “denazify and disarm Ukraine.” The West claims it launched an insurgent attack unprovoked.

Analysts pointed out that Russia’s pledge to stop fighting was mostly fulfilled in areas where Russia has been losing ground.

U.S. soldiers in Poland “liaising” with Ukrainian forces, as they hand over arms to them. A total of 10 F-18 planes and more than 200 troops have been deployed to NATO member, and Russian neighbor, Lithuania. Kirby said.

PROPOSALS

Negotiators from Ukraine stated that Kyiv would not agree to host foreign bases or join other alliances under their plans, but security would be assured in terms comparable to Article 5, the collective defense clause of transatlantic NATO’s military alliance.

The countries they mentioned were Turkey, Canada and NATO members Canada. Russia, Britain, Germany, Italy, and the United States could all be implicated.

These proposals would need to be ratified by the Ukrainian people. They also included a period of 15 years for consultation on Crimea’s status. Russia annexed Crimea in 2014.

Russian and Ukrainian leaders will discuss the future of the Donbass southeastern region. Russia wants Ukraine to give it over to separatists.

The proposals of Kyiv included one that Moscow would accept Ukraine joining the European Union. This was stated by Vladimir Medinsky (Russia’s leading negotiator). Russia previously opposed Ukrainian membership in NATO and the EU.

Medinsky claimed that Russia’s delegation would examine the proposal and then present it to President Vladimir Putin.

Medinsky said that in order to prepare a peaceful agreement, he had “still have a lot of work ahead”.

A source who is familiar with the situation said that Joe Biden, President of the United States, discussed more financial support for Ukraine with allies. This was according to Reuters.

MARIUPOL DEATH TOLL

Reports of attack on the ground continued.

Tass reported that a shell struck a temporary Russian military base near the Ukrainian border late Tuesday. They also cited an anonymous source who said preliminary data indicated it was fired by the Ukrainian side.

The report was issued by Tass shortly after an official from the Russian capital, Belgorod reported several explosions near the Ukrainian border. Reuters couldn’t immediately confirm the details.

According to the United Nations’ head of human rights in Ukraine, Mariupol is under siege, and thousands may have been killed, Reuters reported on Tuesday.

All who stay are in pain.

We are eight. Irina (an engineer) said that she had two buckets full of potatoes and one bucket full of onions in the apartment with windows that were blasted.

In other areas, Ukrainian forces are making advances to retake territory from Russian troops at the outskirts Kyiv and the northeast.

The main administrative building of Mykolaiv in the south was hit by a rocket. According to authorities, at least twelve people died and 33 were injured.
