Bored Ape NFT for $350,000 sells at $115

Bored Ape 835 owner probably is kicking himself for not accepting a $115 offer for an ape that was worth more than $300,000.

In what appears to be a “fat finger” error, the OpenSea user who goes by the name “cchan” accepted a bid of $115 (115 DAI) for BAYC #835, which was acquired for $50k last summer. The Bored Ape’s true value is well over $300k.

OpenSea’s records show that the owner had previously sold another NFT (Mutant Ape #11670) worth $76,000 for 25 DAI or $25 to the same buyer.

BAYC #835, one of the most rare pieces in the Bored Ape collection is quite costly. Before the costly mistake, several other buyers offered upwards of 106 ETH to purchase the piece. Many were surprised that he didn’t accept these higher offers and some suggested it may have all been a scam.

Some people claim that DAI could be mistaken for ETH by the seller. DAI, a Stablecoin paralel with USD is worth more than 115ETH at the current rate.

Meanwhile, a Twitter (NYSE:) user named artchick.eth stated that it “feels more like a tax evasion attempt” on the part of the user.

The seller stated that he did not initiate any transactions while maintaining high levels of travel security. He added that he would be “hard-pressed to call it a hack” and “was in the process of figuring it out as well.”

The buyer’s footprint on the platform revealed that he regularly makes bids on BAYC NFTs with DAI in the hopes that someone might eventually accept his offer.

This isn’t a rare exploit on OpenSea. It is also not unusual for such incidents to occur in the NFT Space, which itself has seen its fair share of scandals.

Due to a decimal mistake, a CryptoPunk NFT weighing around $850,000 sold below $20,000 in a comparable transaction.
