WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – Jen Psaki, the White House Press Secretary, is set to step down in the coming weeks but the Biden Administration has not yet chosen her replacement. Two sources familiar with the matter said that.

Multiple sources from the White House and beyond told Reuters that Karine Jean-Pierre, White House’s deputy press secretary and John Kirby, Department of Defense spokesman (NYSE:), have been widely considered to be top choices to succeed Psaki. These sources were not authorized to name the source before the official announcement.

Sources said that Kate Bedingfield (Communications Director) is currently being considered.

Bedingfield was the spokesperson for President Joe Biden when he was Vice President and was an early hire to the presidential campaign. She hasn’t expressed any interest in this job, but she did talk about it in the past.

One source said that Psaki will continue in her job until the White House Correspondents dinner, which takes place at the end this month. According to Axios, she plans to join MSNBC’s television network, according to a source familiar with the matter.

A White House official stated to Reuters that Psaki’s intentions could not be confirmed.

Psaki indicated that in January 2021, she had stated her intention to leave the job after a year. She stated that she was flexible enough to remain on the job for a longer period of time if necessary during a June conference.

Psaki’s quick, detailed briefings helped to define the Biden presidency. The briefings stood out against the President’s less direct elocution as well as the hostile approach of the Trump administration to the press.

Biden will likely make the decision to replace Psaki personally after consulting with Ron Klain, his chief of staff, and other high-ranking advisers.
