U.S. State Dept approves potential sale of air defense support to Taiwan -Pentagon -Breaking

WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – The U.S. State Department approved the sale of equipment and training to Taiwan in a deal worth up to $95million, according to the Pentagon on Tuesday.

According to the Pentagon, this package will include planning, training, fielding and deployment of the Patriot Air Defense System as well as maintenance, support, and operation of associated equipment.

On Tuesday, the Pentagon’s Defense Security Cooperation Agency informed Congress about possible sales.

The State Department has not approved the notification. However, it does not mean that there is a signed contract or that negotiations are over.

According to the Pentagon, Raytheon (NYSE : ) was the prime contractor in the sale.
