Russia’s Sberbank, Alfa Bank say new U.S. sanctions won’t have significant impact -Breaking

REUTERS/Dado Ruvic(Reuters) – Sberbank, Russia’s largest state-run lender and No. Alfa Bank, the private lender Alfa Bank stated Wednesday that the new United States sanctions will not affect the bank’s operations.
In response to Russia’s “special military operations” in Ukraine, the United States announced Wednesday a new round sanctions against Russian financial institutions.
Senior U.S. officials stated that Washington would impose complete blocking sanctions against Sberbank, Alfa Bank.
Sberbank released a statement saying that sanctions won’t have an impact on operations of the bank and would not cause any disruption to Russians who are already familiar with the restrictions.
Washington had earlier stated that Sberbank’s sanctions against energy transactions would be lifted on Wednesday.
Alfa Bank announced that transactions in U.S. dollar with counterparts will be temporarily stopped, but they will still continue to trade in euros, roubles and other currencies.
A representative from Alfa Bank told Reuters that it wasn’t immediately clear what would become of U.S. Dollar accounts held by its customers with the bank.
“There were 8,257 sanctions against Russia. “Previously, we were afraid that,” Alfa Bank declared in a Telegram channel message.
