Amazon top U.S. company to work for if you want career growth

LinkedInOn Wednesday, named AmazonThe top U.S. employer to choose if you want career progression. The second year Amazon has been voted top company in America.
LinkedIn’s 2022 Most Popular Companies listThe company tracks seven pillars that are focused on career advancement: Skills growth, ability to move up, internal opportunity, stability of company, job security, flexibility, outside opportunities, company affinity and gender diversity. According to the company, rankings were based on information from 810 million of its members as well as investments made by companies in their employees.
However CNBC partner JUST CapitalPlatform for measuring and improving company performance found that the e-commerce giant ranks lower among workers.
JUST ranks Amazon 11th of 53 in retail, and 569th overall among the companies JUST tracks in the Russell 1000. JUST Capital ranks are determined using a poll of AmericansWhat issues do they think U.S. businesses should be focusing on? For workers, these include: paying a living wage, worker health & safety, benefits & work-life balance, diversity, equity & inclusion as well as workforce investment and training.
Amazon’s ranking in JUST in every category except one, worker safety and health, is higher than the industry average. This measures how well the company provides protections to workers that go beyond the legal requirements.
JUST ranks Amazon lower than the industry average for safety and health based upon the amount of controversies that have occurred and the relative lack of policies.
This particular category is absent in the LinkedIn appraisal. list.
Amazon, which is second in private employment, was subject to a lot of scrutiny, including from activists and lawmakers as well some employees.
Amazon’s warehouse staff and its delivery drivers have repeatedly criticized the company. Employees claim the fast pace of work makes it difficult to take breaks and use the bathroom. Amazon employees also asked for increased wages and more vacation time.
Amazon employees have shown a greater sense of activism since the coronavirus pandemic. Amazon workers protested and marched. spoke out about workplace safety. Amazon employees also claimed that Amazon retaliated against blue-collar as well as white-collar workers who have publicly criticised the company.
Andy Jassy, Amazon CEO acknowledgedDuring the GeekWire Summit, he said that employees could be treated better by the company. “I think if you have a large group of people like we do — we have 1.2 million employees — it’s almost like a small country,” he said. There are many things that you can do better.
Amazon employees New York’s Staten Island voted to join a unionThis is perhaps the most visible sign of activism by the company. Amazon has opposed unions for over 20 years and this is an enormous upset.
Amazon’s employee treatment has come under renewed scrutiny since the election. This month, Amazon was asked by the House Oversight Committee to conduct an inquiry into its labor practices and provide details about the fatal warehouse fire in Illinois that occurred last year.
Amazon is thriving amid growing labor unrest last year pledgedWork to improve the employee welfare. The company addedAccording to the list of principles that guide its leadership, “Strive for Earth’s Top Employer” is one of their core values.
Additionally, the company offers more comprehensive benefits to employees such as covering the cost of college tuitionFor its roughly 750,000 hourly employees, it will provide books and other fees. The company has pledged to upskill over 300,000.
Amazon acquired the company last fall raisedAfter establishing a minimum $15 per hour wage for 2018, the average warehouse worker in America earns $18 an hour as a starting salary.
