WASHINGTON (Reuters] – Trump’s former president said he didn’t delete phone records from the White House log nor use “burner phones” during the attack on Capitol by Trump supporters Jan. 6, 2021. The Washington Post published this report on Thursday.

Trump, a Republican told the newspaper that he had not been contacted yet by congressional investigators regarding the attack. This assault occurred while then-Vice President Mike Pence was meeting with lawmakers to certify the victory of Democrat Joe Biden in the Nov. 2020 elections.

Trump made false accusations about election fraud just before crowd marched towards the Capitol at raucous rallies outside of the White House.

The Washington Post last week reported that the White House records of Trump’s phone calls were missing nearly eight hours as the violence unfolded just a few miles from the White House.

Trump stated to the newspaper that he was able to recall who he spoke with on particular days, but had “very good” memories.

According to the Post, he stated that “From the perspective of telephone calls I don’t recall getting many,”. Why would I pay attention to who called me? What difference would it make if congressmen called me? Nothing was secretive. “There was nothing secretive about it.”

A number of U.S. senators including Kevin McCarthy (House Republican Leader) have claimed that they had spoken to Trump during the riot.

Trump spoke only hours later, after all the violence had begun. On the morning of the attack, four people were killed and one Capitol Police officer was injured in fighting with the rioters.

On Wednesday, he spoke out in defense of his silence and assured the Post that it was not regretful to have urged supporters to travel to Washington.

About 800 people were interviewed by members of the House of Representatives’ Democratic-led Jan.6 Select Committee before public hearings in May.

Trump invoked executive privilege to attempt to prevent the Jan. 6th committee’s White House records being destroyed. Trump said he does not know what his response would be if contacted.

According to him, it all depends on the request.”

Recently, the committee interviewed Ivanka Trump’s daughter and Jared Kushner (his top White House advisors).

Trump reported that he talked with Ginni Thomas (a conservative activist and the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas) during his presidency. Trump declined to say whether Mark Meadows, the former White House chief-of-staff, should have sent the panel text messages where she asked Trump to help overturn the election.
