WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – The U.S. Congress voted against President Joe Biden’s decision to lift a rule exiling immigrants in need of asylum. Others in support of the policy said that the administration should do more to ensure that there is a rise in migration.

Biden is given until May 23, to prepare federal agencies for an increase in the number of immigrants seeking to enter America from Mexico. This has been a common situation since many asylum seekers have had to wait to be granted protection.
Republicans who seek to regain control of at least one chamber of Congress during the Nov.8 elections have seized upon the decision, which Senator Republican Leader Mitch McConnell stated was amounted to Democrats “supercharging the border crisis”.
Greg Abbott, Texas governor said Wednesday that some of these migrants would be transported directly by him to Washington.
In early 2020, former President Donald Trump issued the ban known as “Title 42”, which resulted in more than 1 million refugees and migrants being expelled. Trump’s administration stated at that time that it would decrease coronavirus infection in the United States.
There are already high levels of border anxiety, and there is concern that they will increase by more than 28,000 per day. This has prompted a Republican protest.
A few Democratic senators were facing difficult re-election campaigns and proposed legislation to delay Biden’s action.
Maggie Hassan (Senator), Raphael Warnock (Senator), Mark Kelly (Senator), and Catherine Cortez Masto (Senator) want the rule to be stopped. These senators currently are running for reelection in New Hampshire (Georgia), Arizona, Nevada and Nevada.
Democratic Senator Joe Manchin (representing West Virginia, a Trump-loving State) has also joined the fray.
This, along with solid Republican opposition has put a halt to a $10 Billion COVID-19 bill Biden desperately needs.
Ruben Gallego, Representative of the Democratic Party stated that he and his colleagues must get constituents to pay more attention to comprehensive immigration reform. This is something Republicans have repeatedly failed in Congress.
