(Reuters) – Canada’s Shopify (NYSE 🙂 Inc. will adjust its compensation to offer employees more flexibility in choosing between stock or cash. The move is intended to increase and maintain talent in a highly competitive labour market.

Tobi Lutke is the top boss of the company and introduced the changes. The spokesperson for the company said Friday in an email that the change would be effective from July. She also added that the change will apply to all positions and geographies.

Shopify allows businesses to create online shops, but it is experiencing difficulties as the pandemic-driven boom in ecommerce fades. Shopify also spends heavily on a network fulfillment centers.

The stock market has experienced a loss of approximately two-thirds since November, when it reached a record high.

The Globe and Mail reported this move first on Thursday. It was also disclosed at a community meeting.
