Speculators pare back net long U.S. dollar bets in latest week -CFTC, Reuters data -Breaking

NEW YORK (Reuters] Speculators’ net long positions on the U.S. dollars fell during the week to the tune of calculations made by Reuters data and U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission data, which were published on Friday.

For the week ending April 5, the value of the net short dollar position fell to $14.13 trillion, from $16.11 million the previous week. The net U.S. dollar long position fell for the first week in five.

Based on net positions of International Monetary Market (IMM) speculators in Japanese yens, euros, British pounds, Swiss francs, and Canadian dollars, the U.S. dollar position was calculated.

The, which measures the value of the greenback against six major currencies has shown a 4.4% increase so far in 2018, following a 6.3% rise in 2021.

Safe-haven flows in Ukraine during war have been a boon for the greenback all year. Also, the expectation of an aggressive Federal Reserve tightening inflation control to curb the rise in inflation has helped the greenback.

U.S. rate forwards forecast a 85% chance for a 50-basis point increase at the May Meeting, and roughly 220 base points cumulatively in 2022.

Speculators decreased net short position on Bitcoin to 244 contracts during the week ended April 5th, compared to net shorts 271 for the same week, CFTC data revealed.

After a volatile last few months with the Ukraine conflict and rising inflation, it has stabilised above $40,000 It has behaved like a more volatile asset, the largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization.

This year bitcoin has seen a drop of more than 7.7% against the dollar. At $42,822, it was 1.5% lower.
