SEOUL (Reuters – North Korea praised Kim Jong Un’s leadership in creating nuclear weapons. It also praised his political achievements and revealed new portraits and exhibits to mark his 10th year in control of the Workers’ Party (WPK).

Kim was also named the supreme military commander after Kim Jong Il died.

Monday is ten years ago that the youngest Kim was elected to the position of top party leader and state leader. Since its inception, one-party states have been ruled by the Kim family.

Choe Ryong hae, who is a member the Presidium the Political Bureau the WPK Central Committee, spoke at a Sunday national meeting and described Kim as an “exceptional thinker and theoretician”, a peerless great commander, and also a skilled thinker.

This event started a week long commemoration. It will include Friday’s 110-year anniversary the birth of Kim Il Sung (North Korea’s founder) and Kim Jong Un’s grandfather.

Satellite imagery commercially available has revealed North Korean soldiers practicing for a possible military parade this week. Analysts say that there is evidence suggesting North Korea might display its ICBMs in the parade.

North Korea sent alarm bells ringing last month in Seoul, Tokyo, and Washington when it conducted a complete ICBM test. This was the first such test since 2017. It also ended a self-imposed moratorium.

A new construction was spotted at North Korea’s nuclear testing site. This raises concerns about the possibility that North Korea could explode its first weapon since 2017. North Korea stated last week that it opposed war, but would not hesitate to use nuclear weapons against South Korea if necessary.

Choe called Kim a “peerless patriot” and “a great defenderof peace” because he made North Korea “a full military power with all-powerful physical means for self-defence.”

Kim North Korea carried out four of six nuclear test and created massive intercontinental missiles (ICBMs), that could strike anywhere in the United States.

Choe stated that despite facing extraordinary difficulties, Kim opened up an era of opportunity for North Korea, a strong socialist nation, prospering with self-sustenance, and self-reliance.

Kim has pledged to make North Korea’s residents better and attempted to increase its economy. However, it experienced major economic contractions over the past few years due to international sanctions, COVID-19 lockdowns and severe weather. U.N. agencies warn of potential humanitarian crises.

On Sunday, state media revealed a rare and new portrait of Kim. They also reported that the Pyongyang Museum had inaugurated a new exhibit to highlight his achievements as “immortal leader”.
