In a joint statement, https://www.tbs.com/, the companies stated that the cobalt would be used in GM’s Ultium cathodes. These power the Chevrolet Silverado EV’s, GMC Hummer EV’s and Cadillac Lyriq.
This multi-year deal comes at a time when automakers all over the globe rush to make deals with miners in order to secure lithium, nickel, and cobalt supplies, critical components for EV battery production.
GM plans to increase North American production capacity by 1 million EVs by 2025.
