(Reuters] – Ramzan Kadyrov of Chech, a leader in Chechnism, said that over 1,000 Ukrainian Marines had surrendered at Mariupol’s besieged port. He also urged those remaining in Azovstal Steel Mill to surrender.

Officials from Ukraine did not comment on Kadyrov’s Telegram channel statement. The General Staff of Ukraine reported Wednesday that Russian forces had begun attacking Azovstal, and other ports.

Russian television displayed images showing what it claimed were Marines surrendering to Illich Iron and Steel Works, Mariupol, on Tuesday. Many of the injured ones were also shown.

Kadyrov was not clear on the meaning of Azovstal and Illich Iron and Steel Works when he spoke about 1,000 Ukrainian Marines who had surrendered.

Kadyrov posted that “within Azovstal currently there are approximately 200 wounded who can’t receive any medical assistance.” For them and the rest, it is better to put an end to this useless resistance and allow them to return to their families.

Kadyrov supports Vladimir Putin staunchly and sent his troops to Ukraine as part of Russia’s push to “desmilitarize” Ukraine.

His previous postings stated that he would proceed with Mariupol capture as well as press for the take of all cities in Ukraine, including Kyiv.

Russian television footage showed Ukrainian soldiers moving down the road while their hands were in the air. A Ukrainian passport was seen on one of the soldiers.
