STOCKHOLM, (Reuters) – Three persons in Norrkoping in Sweden were injured by bullets fired from police during clashes between protesters and police following Quran-burnings which caused riots across several Swedish cities over Easter weekend.
Some places saw counter-protesters attack police to stop them from staging right-wing extremist demonstrations. The violence was condemned by Magdalena Andersson, Prime Minister.
Three people appear to have been struck by ricochets, and they are being treated in hospital. The police stated that the three victims were all arrested for suspicion of criminal activity.
According to police, the Norrkoping situation was peaceful on Sunday night.
During the last days, police and protesters engaged in violent clashes where many officers were injured and several vehicles torched.
After a demonstration organized by Rasmus Paladan, the leader of Hard Line in Denmark’s far-right political party Hard Line, violence broke out on Thursday. Paludan had permission to organize a series demonstrations throughout Sweden this Easter weekend. His Quran-burnings are well-known.
