(Reuters] – Uber Technologies (NYSE ) said Tuesday that the company had dropped mandatory masks for drivers and riders in the United States. It also added that riders can cancel their ride if it makes them uncomfortable.
As COVID-19 cases rose, the company implemented mask mandates to its riders, drivers and delivery workers all over the globe in May 2020.
Uber also stated that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended wearing a mask if a person suffers from certain high-risk factors, or if they have high levels of transmission in their local area.
According to the company, shared rides were being resumed in November after they had been temporarily suspended because of rising COVID incidences.
After a Florida federal judge ruled the directive illegal, Monday’s Biden administration said that it will no longer enforce an American mask mandate for public transport. After the announcement was made, several major airlines including American Airlines, United Airlines and Delta Air Lines (NYSE 🙂 eased restrictions.
The CDC data shows that COVID-19 has dropped dramatically in America since reaching record-setting levels in January.
