PARIS (Reuters). -Two Deliveroo ex-bosses were sentenced to a one year suspended prison term and fined 30,000 Euros ($32,380) Tuesday by a French Court for abuse of the free-lance status of rider workers for the British delivery service.

Court ruled that the company was also subject to a maximum penalty of 375,000 Euros ($404,625).

Deliveroo could be reacted to outside France as the ruling against Deliveroo is challenged in court. This comes at a time when gig economies, based largely on digital apps and self-employed workers face a host of legal challenges that might change work conditions.

Deliveroo’s lawyer declined to comment on whether the company will appeal the decision
