(Reuters) – Magna International (NYSE.) and LG Electronics have begun construction of a factory in Ramos Airzpe in Mexico that will produce electric vehicle parts for General Motors Co. (NYSE.). This is set to begin in 2023.

LG Magna e-Powertrain is building the plant. The plant will manufacture EV motors as well inverters, on-board chargers and inverters.

GM stated a year ago it would invest over $1 billion at its Ramos Arizpe assembly facility, where it will start building EVs by 2023.

GM’s Ramos Arizpe facility currently produces the gasoline-powered Chevrolet Equinox, Blazer and Blazer SUVs. It has yet to say where the company plans to make new electric versions. These vehicles are expected to start production in 2023.

LG Magna e-Powertrain stated that the new facility would be the first North American manufacturing base for the joint venture and will create approximately 400 jobs.
