U.S. Stocks Mixed Ahead of Fed’s Beige Book; Netflix Sinks 38% -Breaking

Investing.com — U.S. stock market were mixed ahead of Wednesday’s release of Federal Reserve’s beigebook, a periodic glance at economic trends around the country.

At 10.11 am ET the index had risen 202 points or 0.6% while the was flat at 0.8%.

Netflix Inc. (NASDAQ:) was Tuesday’s big news. The stock fell 25% after it missed its subscription numbers in the first quarter. It also received a warning about the possibility of losing 2 million subscribers for the current quarter, which ends June. On Wednesday, the stock fell 38%.

The Fed’s Beige Book, which will be published at 2:00 ET, provides a quick snapshot of the economic trends that have been reported by all its regional banks throughout the country. Widely expected, the central bank will increase rates by half a point at its next policy meeting on May.

Shares of International Business Machines (NYSE:) rose 5% after beating expectations for earnings late Tuesday, while Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:) rose 2% after beating estimates on Wednesday.

Following Tuesday’s rise above 2.9%, Treasury dropped to 2.88%. Crude oil prices slowed with crude falling 0.2% to $101/barrel and crude falling 0.4% at $106/barrel, while the benchmark international price for crude fell 0.4%. The price of crude oil fell 0.3%, to $1953/oz.
