AHMEDABAD (India) – Britain is hoping to sign a free trade agreement with India before the end of the year. This was said by Boris Johnson, British Prime Minister. He also stressed the importance to lessen our dependence on oil and gas from the conflict in Ukraine.

Johnson stated that he hoped to sign another free trade agreement in India with India before the end of this year. This was during his first two-day trip to India.

India failed to vote in the UN referendum condemning Russia for its invasion of Ukraine. It caused alarm among western nations.

Johnson’s office stated before his visit, however that it would not give Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi any lecture on this matter. Moscow calls the war a special operation.

India and Russia share a history that is different from the relationship between the UK and Russia over the past couple of decades. Johnson spoke out, saying that while we need to be able to recognize this fact, Johnson will talk about it with Narendra Modi.

India imports Russian oil and defense equipment.

India and Britain share fears about global autocracies. Johnson stated that we are both democracies and want to stay together, while stressing the importance of not relying solely on foreign hydrocarbons.

“One thing we are talking about is how we can build partnerships on hydrogen and electric vehicles on offshore wind… There’s also an opportunity to strengthen our security partnership and defense partnership.”
