WASHINGTON — The United States will send another $800 million security package to Ukraine as its military fights off a renewed Russian assault, President Joe Biden said Thursday.

Biden stated from the Roosevelt Room at the White House that the package included heavy artillery guns, ammunition for dozens of howitzers, and 144,000 rounds.

After weeks of slow ground advance on Kyiv, the latest security package also includes drones and tactical weapons.

Biden claimed that he had discussed the new security packages in person with Denys Khmyhal, Ukraine’s Prime Minister.

Biden’s comments come after a Wednesday afternoon meeting of his military commanders, national security officials and other civilians to discuss assessments about global threats and the ongoing war with Ukraine.

Biden stated that U.S. Security Assistance is being flown into the region every day and that the allies are “stepping in and amplifying our response.”

Following a call with Volodymyr Zilenskyy (Ukraine President), we made contact last week. Biden authorized a military assistance package worth $800 million.

The Biden administration deployed over 100,000 U.S. soldiers to NATO member countries since February 24, when Moscow invaded Ukraine. They also authorized security assistance of $2.6 billion.

According to the White House: The U.S. has donated $3.2 billion to Ukraine over the course of Biden’s presidency.

The NATO alliance also has more than 140 warships and 130 aircraft under heightened alert. A strong 30-member group warned Vladimir Putin, Russian President, that an attack by one NATO member country will be seen as an attack on everyone. The group’s foundation Article 5 was also activated.

Ukraine has been a candidate for NATO membership ever since 2002. It is bordered on four sides by NATO members: Poland Slovakia Hungary Romania
