BEIJING, (Reuters) – A Chinese court sentenced Shadeed Abdulmateen, a U.S. citizen, to death for the intentional homicide on Thursday of a 21 year-old girl, who was his ex-girlfriend, according to state broadcaster CCTV.

Ningbo Intermediate People’s Court found that, after an argument over their breakup in June 2019, the defendant met and talked with Chen, a Chinese female surnamed Chen at Ningbo’s bus stop, before shooting Chen with a knife.

CCTV reports that Chen was killed by the defendant for his “premeditated revenge killing”, stabbing and cutting Chen several times. CCTV also reported that Chen’s circumstances were especially bad and serious and should be punished accordingly.

A U.S. State Department official said that they were monitoring the situation but could not provide further comment due to privacy concerns.
