(Reuters) – There were no humanitarian routes out of Mariupol in southeast Ukraine on Sunday. This was according to Iryna Veselchuk, Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minster. She blamed Russian forces for not holding the fire.

Vereshchuk stated that Ukraine would attempt to secure safe passage from Mariupol on Monday. The U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres will be visiting Kyiv next Tuesday and she called upon him to ask for a cease-fire as well as to allow humanitarian passages out of Mariupol.

Vereshchuk declared that “This is what Guterres ought to talk about in Moscow, and if they are preparing for peace negotiations.”
