(Reuters) – Johnny Depp, Hollywood’s star actor returns to the witness stand Monday morning to face additional questions from Amber Heard’s attorneys in front of a jury who will determine the dueling claims for defamation.

Depp is currently suing Heard (36), for $50 million. She claims that Heard abused her during the couple’s nearly two years of marriage. Heard, according to Depp’s “Pirates of the Caribbean”, was the one that became violent during their relationship.

Heard, who is best known for his roles in “Aquaman”, and “Justice League,” sued Depp for $100 million. She claimed that Depp had smeared him by calling Depp a liar.

Heard’s lawyers provided text messages and emails that Depp had sent Heard and friends and family last week. They were full of expletives, vulgar description, and other such things.

Depp, in 2013, wrote to Paul Bettany: “Let’s drowne her before we set her ablaze” and that she would “fuck her burned corpse afterwards to make certain she is dead.”

Depp claimed he is not proud of angerful language.

Heard was the actor who would get physical with Depp during arguments, and would push or slap him. He claimed that Heard had once torched Depp’s right middle finger by throwing a vodka glass at him.

Heard also denied throwing the bottle at Depp and cutting his finger in a different legal case. According to her, she was throwing things in order to escape from him when he beat her and punched him once because she worried he might push her sister down stairs.

Depp claimed that he had never struck Heard nor any other woman. He accuses Heard of making fun of him for writing a Washington Post article in December 2018 about her being a victim of domestic abuse.

Depp’s name was never mentioned in the article. However, Heard’s lawyer informed jurors that he was clearly referring to him. In 2017, the couple divorced.

Depp claimed Heard’s accusations cost him his “everything” and that he was one of Hollywood’s biggest actors. Depp’s involvement in the new movie “Pirates” was cancelled and he was removed from “Fantastic Beasts”, a spinoff of “Harry Potter”.

Heard’s legal team argued she was truthful and that her opinions were protected by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. Heard’s lawyers stated that Depp had physically and sexually assaulted them while she was using drugs and alcohol.

The trial is being overseen by a Fairfax County judge, Virginia. It is anticipated to continue until May.

Depp, who was accused of being a wife beater by The Sun, lost his libel suit less than 2 years ago. Heard had been repeatedly attacked by Depp, a judge at the London High Court ruled.

Depp’s attorneys claim that they filed the U.S. lawsuit in Fairfax County outside of Washington DC because there is a Washington Post newspaper. Newspaper is not being sued.
