Elon Musk to buy Twitter for $44 billion -Breaking

(Reuters.) -Elon Musk is able to close a deal to purchase a company. Twitter Inc (NYSE) Monday, April 4, 2014: $44 Billion. This transaction will give control over the social media platform that is used by millions and leaders around the globe to the most powerful person.

The deal was initially in doubt last week, but discussions sped up over the weekend when Musk lured Twitter shareholders by revealing the details of the financing.

Twitter began negotiations with Musk under pressure to purchase the company for $54.20 per shares.

Twitter has been a public company ever since it was listed for the first time in 2013.

Musk released a statement saying that free speech was essential to a democracy functioning. He also stated that Twitter is the “digital town square” where important issues are being discussed.

Twitter shares rose by 6% after the news.
