Gilinski acquires another 3% of SURA in third public offer -Breaking

REUTERS/Fredy builesBOGOTA, (Reuters) – Jaime Gilinski, a Colombian businessman, has acquired an additional 3% share of Grupo SURA, an investment holding company, in a third public purchase offer. Analysts and stock exchange officials said that Gilinski was now able to take another seat on the board.
Gilinski has been named the biggest shareholder in the company. He is Colombia’s wealthiest man and the result of a number of offers that shake up Grupo Epresarial Antioqueno’s (GEA) largest conglomerate. SURA is a member as well as industrial conglomerate Grupo argos.
According to a letter received by Reuters, Gilinski requested that Grupo SURA President Gonzalo Repo hold an extraordinary meeting to elect a new board.
“In a respectful fashion, I request that you call the session as quickly and as often as possible,” was the reply to the letter.
Gilinski, as well as SURA, declined to comment.
Gilinski bought 13,966,097 SURA Shares at a cost of $9.88 each share in this third offering. According to Reuters calculations, he will have spent $138 millions on this offer in addition $1.24 billion for the previous two.
Although his original request for 5.2% to 6.5% was not met, it raised his SURA stake from 34.58% to 34.58%. This is higher than Grupo Argos’ 27.79%.
Multiple analysts said that the outcome will grant him another spot on board where he currently controls three.
Analyst Laura Triana, Acciones y Values brokerage said that “he’s in an extremely good position with a great participation in the company, and we are certain with Nutresa the same,” referring to a third offer by Gilinski for Nutresa shares.
Gilinski seeks between 9,6% and 12 percent of Nutresa, at $12.58/share
GEA firms have refused to take part in public offerings because Gilinski’s values are too low.
