(Reuters) – Monday’s recommendation by the California Coastal Commission was to deny approval of Huntington Beach’s desalination facility. This could prove fatal for a project which would provide 50 million gallons per day of water.

While the staff decision could be overturned, the commission rarely does. On May 12, the commission will vote on the project. Poseidon Water is proposing the desalination facility. It’s managed by Brookfield Asset Management, Canada’s infrastructure arm.
