(Reuters) – German carmakers BMW and Volkswagen (ETR:)’s Audi have suspended shipments of cars by rail from Germany to China due to the war in Ukraine, the business daily reported https://s.nikkei.com/39lwEtv on Tuesday.

This suspension is almost two months following BMW’s announcement that it would stop exporting cars to Russia.

According to the report, a BMW spokesperson stated that “Due to current geopolitical circumstances, our train transport on Trans-Siberian Railway and Silk Road has temporarily switched to alternate routes or modes of transportation to ensure planning security.”

Reuters reached Audi, BMW, and Volkswagen but they did not respond immediately to our requests.

Audi announced in March that it would adjust its production operations at the Hungarian plant, which is responsible for large amounts of country’s exports due to the conflict in Ukraine.
