WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – The U.S. Congress’s official investigation into Donald Trump’s Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol plans to hold hearings in June, before issuing a final Report in the early fall, the chairman of the committee said Tuesday.
Representative Bennie Thompson stated to reporters that the House of Representatives Select Committee was “still considering probably early fall” as a time frame for publishing its final report.
The leaders of the committee previously stated that they planned to host hearings early in spring.
The panel would be able to publish its findings prior to the Nov.8 midterm elections. This will help determine the control of Congress during President Joe Biden’s second term.
Republicans are likely to close the committee if they win control of the House, as they are the favorites.
Thompson indicated that an interim report was planned for the committee, which would be followed by a final one.
Thompson, a Democrat said that the progress was coming at a quicker pace than expected. Therefore, it is likely that one report will be produced.”
They are trying to find out what happened when Trump and his followers attacked police officers and vandalized Capitol. This led to thousands of Trump supporters running for their own lives.
Congress was meeting to count electoral votes which gave Joe Biden victory at the November 2020 election.
In the investigation of the committee, 800 people were interviewed, which included many Trump White House aides.
