WASHINGTON (Reuters), a member of far-right Proud Boys pleaded guilty on Wednesday to obstruction to police officers after he was part in President Donald Trump’s Jan. 6th 2021 attack on Washington, DC by his supporters.

In a plea deal, Louis Enrique Colon (Missouri) agrees to one felony and to cooperate with the prosecutors. Colon acknowledged that he crossed police barricades in the riot and then climbed a wall for access to the Capitol’s higher levels.

Colon was inside Capitol Building and used his hands, a chair and his arms to block police officers trying to lower the retractable doors. This stopped rioters entering the building.

Colon, 45 years old, was arrested in February 2021 with four other Proud Boys members from the Kansas City metropolitan chapter. In that case, he is the first to plead guilty.

As Colon was awaiting trial, a judge had placed conditions that would monitor his behavior. Colon is scheduled to be sentenced in the latter part of this year. He faces a maximum five-year term of imprisonment and up $250,000.

His cooperation and admission of responsibility will result in a reduction of sentence.

Colon wasn’t charged with the same conspiracy as Enrique Tarrio (the former chairman of Proud Boys) and was one of 800 individuals facing criminal charges in connection to the riot.

Colon’s plea is two weeks after Charles Donohoe (Proud Boys leader) pleaded guilty for obstructing a formal proceeding, as well as assaulting and impeding the police officers.
