Baidu, Pony.ai receive permits for driverless ride-hailing in Beijing city area -Breaking

BEIJING/SHANGHAI – Baidu (NASDAQ 🙂 and Pony.ai claimed on Thursday they received permits from Beijing to operate driverless ride-hailing service in a 60 m2 area within the Chinese capital.
Baidu claimed that 10 of its autonomous vehicles would be allowed to ride on the roads without the need for human drivers.
Pony.ai announced that it would place a safety guard in the front seat of the passenger, to protect the services for the general public.
