David Clark Cause is the Call for Code, and he works in collaboration with Founding Partner IBM (NYSE:) The Linux Foundation and United Nations Human Rights today launched the 2022 Call for Code Global Challenge. It is the most ambitious and largest effort to bring together both developers and problem-solvers to make open innovation a tool to combat climate change and accelerate sustainability.

Now in its fifth year, Call for Code galvanized a community of more than a half million developers, students, and problem solvers from 180 nations who answered the call to use advanced technologies to design cutting-edge open source-powered hybrid cloud and AI solutions that can tackle the world’s most pressing societal issues.

Today is the 2022 Call for Code Global Challenge. Solutions can be submitted anytime before October 31st 2022. Grand Prize Winner will receive $200,000, and implementation support by IBM Ecosystem partner.

Call for Code attendees can choose the sustainability issue that they wish to address, create a team and register on the Global Challenge resource site, hosted by BeMyApp. After registering, participants can attend Challenge Accelerator events that will help them fast track their projects.

Call for Code was also selected by the Right Here Right Now Global Climate Alliance as its preferred innovation platform. This alliance is one of the most important public/private partnerships for climate change in the world. Because of the disproportionate effects on people of color and those living in poverty and other marginalized groups, this alliance works with its partner, United Nations Human Rights. A rapidly growing alliance of policy-makers from NGOs, foundations and corporations, Right Here, Right Now Global Climate Alliance, United Nations Human Rights, is supported by stars such as Leonardo DiCaprio and Quincy Jones.

Call for Code Global Challenge 2022 Open for Submissions

Call for Code IBM and IBM Ecosystem partner Arrow Electronics (NYSE:), EY. Ingram Micro. Ituit Persistent Systems and New Relic (NYSE) provide access to experts and technical resources to participants during themed accelerators. These sessions can be used to help identify problems that need to be solved. Applications can be built using open source-powered software including Red Hat OpenShift, IBM Cloud, IBM Watson, IBM LinuxOne Community Cloud from IBM zSystems and IBM Blockchain, as well as APIs from IBM’s The Weather Company.

Problem solvers and developers are required to come up with solutions to the many challenges associated to sustainability and climate change. Solutions could include ways to increase sustainable consumption and production as well as management and reduction of pollution. Some solutions may address issues such as how to increase the capacity to analyze, measure or take decisive steps to reduce carbon emissions. How to make supply chains transparent and traceable to give fast and accurate visibility into sustainability issues wherever they are. Reduce the amount of waste and promote reuse/recycling.

University students can win the University Prize. It is a partnership program between IBM and Clinton Global Initiative University. More than 90,000. Students from hundreds of universities all over the globe will be eligible to win the University Prize in 2021. This program has been nine times more successful than the original goal.

Saaf water won the 2021 Call for Code Global Challenge. This team was made up of students from India and completed an excellent test at Goa Housing Complex to validate its access water quality sensor. The test helped Saaf water analyze the building’s water quality and they were able to update their installation process for future tests.
