REUTERS/Lucas Jackson/File Photo(Reuters) – On Thursday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a long-awaited proposal for banning menthol cigarettes and flavored tobacco products. This was a significant victory for anti-smoking activists but could also impact sales at tobacco businesses.
This proposal comes one year after the agency first announced it. It is still being finalized, and may take several years to put into practice, as there will likely be stiff opposition from tobacco companies.
