(Reuters) – Three Florida correctional officers were taken into custody Friday for murdering a handcuffed prisoner two months back, as he was being transferred to another jail.

On Thursday, officers from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement arrested Christopher Rolon (29), Kirk Walton (34) and Ronald Connor (24) respectively. The agency stated that a fourth officer was still at large.

According to jail records, the men were held in Miami and are facing charges including second-degree murder, conspiracies, and aggravated battery on a disabled adult. For the men, no attorneys were listed.

Katherine Fernandez Rundle from Miami-Dade State Attorney stated that “individuals who are sentenced for incarceration under our criminal courts have lost both their freedom and their basic rights.” “Inmates should not be subject to forms of ‘back alley’ justice which are actions in violation of Florida law.”

Fernandez Rundle is expected to host a press conference on Friday at 2:20 p.m., local time in Miami.

The statement stated that the officers brought an inmate from Dade County Correctional Institution’s Mental Health Unit to Lake County Correctional Institution on February 14. Unidentified inmate was seen throwing urine at one officer before being removed from his cells.

According to the report, officers placed the inmate under arrest and took him out of his cell. The officers beat him and took him to a van, where he was placed in an isolated compartment.
