WASHINGTON, (Reuters) –White House Communications Director Kate Bedingfield was positive for COVID-19 Friday. Washington journalists and politicians were setting up a weekend of activities around the annual White House Correspondents Association dinner.

Bedingfield stated that she did not consider herself to be in close contact with President Joe Biden. She last met him on Wednesday during a meeting socially distant.

Bedingfield stated that her mild symptoms were due to having been fully vaccinated, and that she was boosting the vaccine. She said she will work at home and return to the White House five days later after being isolated and receiving a negative result from a test.

Bedingfield joined a list of White House staffers, Cabinet officials, and cabinet members who have received positive COVID tests. This week, Vice President Kamala Harris was positive for COVID-19. According to a White House official, she remains unsymptomatic.

Others who were positive for this test included Nancy Pelosi (Speaker of the United States House of Representatives), next in line of succession after Harris, Attorney General Merrick Grland, and Gina Raimondo.

Biden will attend Saturday’s White House Correspondents Association Annual Dinner, but will be limited in his attendance to reduce his exposure to coronavirus. Jen Psaki, the press secretary said Wednesday.

Because of the pandemic, the Saturday dinner has been canceled for 2019.
