Goldman Sachs Offers First Bitcoin-Backed Loan

Goldman Sachs is a pioneer in crypto adoption. It was the first time that a Wall Street bank had ever issued a Bitcoin-backed loan. This further contributed to their strategy to encourage crypto adoption.

The loan was made to an undisclosed borrower in cash but collateralized in the world’s leading cryptocurrency – .

The asset holder will be able to borrow fiat currency, such as dollars or euros, after putting their Bitcoin as collateral – an item of value that a lender can seize from a borrower if they fail to repay a loan regarding the agreed terms.

According to Bloomberg, the loan comes with 24-hour risk management, meaning that it’s carefully watched at all times. Because of the volatility in Bitcoin, the loan falls under the “risky” category. The borrower might be asked to provide additional collateral in order to protect their assets from liquidation if Bitcoin’s price falls.

Goldman is known for its innovative approaches to digital asset experimentation. The historic Wall Street bank’s first ever over-the-counter Bitcoin transaction was made last month by Goldman Sachs with Galaxy Digital.

The bank also offers crypto ETFs, or Exchange Trader Funds. This allows the client to trade and not just spot cryptocurrency trading. Institutional traders prefer to trade cryptocurrencies via an intermediary rather than holding the tokens.
