Tesla (NASDAQ:) is recalling 48,000 model 3 performance vehicles in the US due to a software issue that may cause the speedometer display to fail during “Track Mode”.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration stated that the vehicles don’t meet federal motor vehicle safety standards. If drivers aren’t aware of their speeds, it can increase risk of an accident. The speed unit was removed from the interface by a firmware update in December.

It covers all models from 2018 to 2022. To address this issue, Tesla will provide an over-the air software update.

Tesla also recalls Model 3s in China due to a similar problem.
