WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – An Oath Keepers member admitted Friday to participating in seditious conspiration during the attack on U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. He also agreed to cooperate investigators. This is a victory for prosecutors, who are preparing to face the founder of the far-right group.

Brian Ulrich, 44 years old, of Georgia, pleaded guilty to the charges during Friday’s hearing at a federal District of Columbia court.

Ulrich was charged as one of the 11 Oath Keepers with conspiracy to commit seditious acts in an indictment that was not sealed in January.

Stewart Rhodes was one of the accused in the case. Some of these defendants will likely be tried later in the year.

This multi-defendant case represents the sole case in which participants to the Jan. 6, attack were accused of engaging in seditious conspiracies. It is defined as “to overthrow or put down the United States government by force”

Ulrich was the second Oath Keepers member who pleaded guilty to obstruction and seditious conspiracies charges. Joshua James, 34 years old, from Alabama, pleaded guilty on March.

Ulrich agreed as part of the plea deal to cooperate with ongoing investigations by the U.S. Justice Department.

Ulrich could face a six-year sentence under U.S. sentencing guidelines. However, credit will be granted for the time already served.

U.S. District judge Amit Mehta will sentence Ulrich. He is not bound to that range. Ulrich is currently in federal custody, pending the setting of a sentencing hearing.
