Major League Baseball suspended Trevor Bauer of the Los Angeles Dodgers for 324 games, effectively two seasons without pay. Bauer had been accused of violating league domestic violence policies.

It is immediately effective and will last until the 2024 season.

Despite the fact that the Commissioner’s Office didn’t issue additional statements following its conclusion to the investigation of allegations against Bauer’s character, Bauer immediately used social media to declare his intent to appeal.

“In the strongest possible terms, I deny committing any violation of the league’s domestic violence & sexual assault policy,” Bauer wrote on Twitter (NYSE:). I appeal this decision and hope to win. As we have throughout this process, my representatives & I respect the confidentiality of the proceedings.”

Bauer was 31 years old and due to receive $32 million in this year’s season as well as $202 million in 2023 under a $102 million three-year deal that was signed just before the 2021 season.

Bauer will sue the woman that accused him of sexual assault. She claims her motive is to ruin his reputation and career in baseball, get attention and take millions from him.

U.S. District Court, Central District of California filed the suit Monday. The plaintiff is seeking unspecified punitive and monetary damages. Bauer claims that Bauer “made false allegations of sexual assault and made malicious statements” while she was seeking a domestic violence order.

The filing occurred one day following Bauer’s latest pitching performance at the Dodgers. Bauer signed a $32 million, three year contract with Dodgers before 2021. Although he has been on Major League Baseball’s administrative leave since July 2, the Los Angeles County District Attorney declined to bring charges.

In the court filing, Bauer describes in detail the sexual encounters with the San Diego woman who lives next to him. Field Level Media won’t publish names of victims of sexual assault as per company policy.

Following the Commissioner’s announcement regarding Bauer’s discipline, the Dodgers released the following statement.

The Dodgers take all allegations of this kind very seriously. They do not condone, excuse or tolerate any act of domestic violence and sexual assault. MLB has been investigating us since the very beginning. Since then, we’ve fully supported MLB’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Child Abuse Policy and its enforcement by the Commissioner. We know that Trevor is entitled to appeal the Commissioner’s decision. We will therefore not comment on the matter until it is concluded.”

Bauer was limited to just 17 innings and made only one start last season. He also pitched 107 1/3 innings for the Dodgers in his debut year. His total base salary was $28million in 2021, and he went 8-5 with a 2.59 ERA.

Bauer was an All-Star in 2018, and a National League Cy Young Award Winner in 2020. He has an 83-69 career record and a 3.79 ERA with 222 career appearances (221 starts) with Arizona Diamondbacks.
