KABUL, (Reuters) – Officials say at least one person died in Saturday’s bombing in Kabul’s passenger vehicle. The incident occurred as security worries rise ahead of Eid al-Fitr in Islam.

Khalid Zadran (a spokesperson for Kabul’s commander) said that one woman had been killed and three others were injured.

An explosion claimed the lives of more than 50 people who were praying at Kabul’s mosque on Friday, just days after the usual spate of attacks on mosques during Ramadan (the Muslim holy month)

Ali Maisam (19 years old), a witness to the blast of the passenger van, stated that he witnessed several bodies while waiting at a bakery nearby.

I saw bloodied and burned faces coming out of the bus. I saw that four bodies were taken out and a woman was among the dead,” he said.

Although no one has claimed the responsibility, most of the previous attacks were claimed by an Afghan affiliate to the Islamic State militant group.

Afghanistan is facing security issues as it prepares for Eid Al-Fitr under Taliban rule on Sunday. The event comes after the U.S.-led invasion of 2001.

After the withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan, the Taliban took power again in August.

Taliban officials declared Saturday that Eid would take place the day after. There were raucous celebrations in Kabul’s streets late Saturday night.

Authorities also took steps to calm fears about security before Eid.

Abdul Nafee Takor, spokesperson for Afghan interior ministry said that “We assure our countrymen that we will ensure security throughout Eid.”
