On Saturday, President Joe Biden hosted an annual gala for the White House Press Corps.

Biden accepted an invitation to attend the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner. This was despite being sidelined in part by the pandemics in 2020 and 2021. While in office, Donald Trump refused to attend the dinner.

Biden said, “Just think if my predecessor came here this year,” to a crowd of 2,600 including celebrities and journalists. This would have been a coup.

President Obama took advantage of this occasion to try out his comic chops. He joked about the criticism he had received in the first fifteen months of his term and also took aim at his predecessor, Republican Party, as well as members of the media.

Biden told the Hilton ballroom, which was filled with media representatives that “I’m so excited to be there tonight with the only American group with a lower acceptance rating than me,”

Biden made fun of “Let’s Go Brandon”, which is now the slogan used by the right to swear at the president.

Biden declared, “Republicans appear to support one guy, some guy called Brandon”, causing a lot of laughter from the crowd. He’s enjoying a great year. He’s a great guy.

He said that he could not say anything about roasting the GOP if Kevin McCarthy hadn’t already done so.

Washington’s premier news media event, the correspondents dinner gathered Washington journalists Jake Tapper of CNN and Joy Ann Reid from MSNBC. The guests included celebrities Kim Kardashian, Drew Barrymore, Brooke Shields and Caitlyn Jenner. Antony Blinken, Secretary of State, was one of the prominent officials.

The first lady was also present with him. For health reasons, Dr. Anthony Fauci and Vice President Kamala Harris both tested positive for this week’s national threat.

A COVID-19 spike in cases from highly contagious subvariants of Omicron was causing a surge in U.S. COVID-19 infections. The number of confirmed infections rose to approximately 44,000 per hour, an increase from the 26,000 reported a month earlier.
