BERLIN, (Reuters) – Despite economic dangers posed in the conflict with Ukraine, German companies are less concerned about their survival, a poll showed Monday.

The Ifo institute reported that 7.1% (of the almost 8,500 companies polled) felt threatened by their existence, nearly half of the number found in January’s last survey.

However, certain sectors still feel at risk from the coronavirus pandemic. Klaus Wohlrabe of ifo said that nearly 25% of hospitality and event companies report concerns about their survival.

Retail: 6.9% of retailers considered themselves to be under threat, as compared with 14.8% in January. Wohlrabe noted that “the latest statistics don’t show any trace of the current inflation dynamic”.

Wohlrabe said that the high level of uncertainty caused by the conflict in Ukraine had not triggered an increase survival fear in the key sectors. “The manufacturing order books are full.”

According to the survey, 4.9% fear survival in manufacturing, a slight decrease from January’s 5.6%.
