NEW YORK, Reuters – Donald Trump’s 2017 U.S. Presidential Inaugural Committee and his family will pay $750,000 in settlement to a Washington, D.C. attorney general lawsuit alleging that they funneled large amounts of charity funds to Trump International Hotel.

Nearly three quarters (37%) of $1.03 million Attorney General Karl Racine claimed the nonprofit initial committee overpaid for the right to rent space at the hotel. This included for Trump’s private party, which was attended by his adult children.

The January 2020 lawsuit was settled by the Trump Organization as well as the Committee.

Racine stated in a statement that Donald Trump illegally used his inauguration funds to benefit his family after he won the election. Nonprofit funds can’t be used to fill the pockets of wealthy individuals.

Trump wasn’t a defendant. His family expects to sell the hotel which is located several blocks from the White House soon to Miami investment firm CGI Merchant Group.

Trump will also be able to transform the hotel into a Waldorf Astoria.

Trump said that he had reached a settlement with Democrat Attorney General Racine in light of the sale. His company provided a statement.

Trump stated, “This is yet another instance of Law Enforcement being used against the Republican Party and the ex-President of the United States,” Trump added, “So terrible for our country!”

Two Washington nonprofits, which support Washington youth will be able to receive the $750,000.

Trump settled claims made by Letitia James, New York Attorney General, that he had misappropriated his charitable foundation’s name in November 2019.

According to her, this led to funds being used for Trump’s 2016 campaign as well as to pay $10,000 for his portrait.

James has launched a civil investigation into Trump Organization and claims she found evidence that it misvalued assets over a period of more than 10 years.
